At Salesian College Sunbury, we recognise that some students have additional learning needs. The De Sales Enrichment Program is designed to meet the needs of high performing students who require additional challenge in their academic program.
The De Sales Enrichment Program provides an opportunity for students with particular skills and attributes to pursue our College values through a challenging curriculum designed to facilitate deep learning.
Participants are expected to be strong ‘all-rounders’ in their approach to education. In addition to a solid foundation in literacy and numeracy, De Sales Enrichment Program students must also have a demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate with others in highly effective ways. They have a passion for learning and are willing to embrace challenges and uncertainty as opportunities for growth.
By bringing together students with strengths in critical and creative thinking, who are curious and resilient learners capable of dealing with complex problems, the De Sales Enrichment Program provides opportunities to explore the curriculum in greater depth and complexity.
Students are expected to progress through the curriculum at a quicker pace than in mainstream classes, allowing for a greater focus on understanding how knowledge is developed and how we test and prove ideas and hypotheses. Students are provided with further opportunities to develop metacognitive skills, to reflect on their own thinking and learning, and to develop the capacity to identify fallacies in their own approach to learning.
The De Sales Enrichment Program offers opportunities to:
- develop the attributes of independent learners with the curiosity and resilience to address complex issues
- explore skills and concepts covered in the curriculum in greater depth and complexity
- take advantage of opportunities for integration between subject areas, with a focus on real-world links and problem solving
- extend personal and interpersonal skills, including communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking
- participate in extra-curricular academic programs.
