At Salesian College Sunbury, we know that education extends far beyond the classroom.
While academic progress remains our central focus, true growth happens when students build confidence, resilience, and a sense of self. This commitment to holistic development aligns with the Charter for Catholic Schools in Victoria, which reminds us that Catholic education is about far more than results, it’s about nurturing the whole person, made in the image of God.
Over the past term, we’ve seen countless examples of personal growth among our students, moments that reflect who they are becoming as people, not just as learners.
Students have embraced opportunities to lead, perform, and serve through a wide range of school experiences. During our MADD Day celebrations, student creativity, collaboration, and initiative were on full display. House-based activities and student-led contributions revealed a powerful blend of fun and purpose, helping young people find their voice and take ownership of community experiences.
Our senior students also continue to shine beyond the academic space. Through sport, students demonstrate persistence, courage, and teamwork, whether on the athletics track or in team competitions. These activities teach valuable life lessons: how to rise after setbacks, how to support others, and how to push beyond perceived limits.
In the Creative and Performing Arts, students grow in confidence as they step into the spotlight, whether it’s through music, drama, dance, or visual storytelling. Public performances and workshops often become turning points, as self-belief takes root and students step more boldly into who they are.
Co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities are more than just optional add-ons, they are key moments where identity is formed, passions are discovered, and community is built. These activities give students the space to try, fail, learn, and ultimately thrive in safe and supportive environments.
At every level, we are proud of the young people emerging in our care. Their development as respectful, confident, and capable individuals is a daily reminder that student success is about so much more than grades.
If your child hasn’t yet found their ‘thing’, encourage them to try something new, whether it’s a sport, a club, a leadership role or the arts. These small steps often lead to big growth. And as always, we’re here to support them along the way.
